Jim Goodin - Rite of Passage

from Burst from the Sky Take Flight by Jim Goodin

about

As said most of the music on this CD was improvised live. In some cases I took a second run at it but it was still spontaneous meaning that I was not actively thinking 'composed'. For this piece I was looking a photo of my late father and my sister's youngest child Ben in the photo with my dad. He my dad was an avid hunter, grew up and lived in the rural south so there was a certain code of arms in learning how to use a firearm. Often and I'm not yeying or neying here but often males as young boys learn how to 'shoot' at 7 or 8 and that is what happened in this relationship. That photo was taken in a situation like that and I thought it's really a 'rite of passage' in life there, very traditional.

about

Jim Goodin New York

I used to think of myself as a musician but as time goes I think of myself more a sound maker.

I've always come to music with some degree of struggle, at times worrying I was 'tone deaf' and often going to great lengths to confirm that I wasn't. I'm not sure that ever mattered.

I play at several instruments, lap steel guitar and others, modular synth, tape loops and Pure Data.
