about

Recorded as participation in the 2012 RPM (record a cd in 28 days) Challenge, Burst from the Sky Take Flight was created, produced and recorded during the month of February 2012. Marking a return in some ways to the guitar I recorded on 6 and 12 string but still brought in fretless via the oud which is heard on 3 pieces. I invited two friends to join me, Will Romano a drummer I have known and worked with for several years is heard on Thread the Stone and In February and James Ross, a Brooklyn area artist I first got acquainted with through ImprovFriday and later met when decided to start collaborating on music in person, is heard on The Fields, the Sun, the Grains. A few words are heard on the album both in a lyric and spoken word. There is a bird, flight, organic theme. I was returning from the grocery one cold morning and passed by a local hospital. There was a flock of birds flying in a frenetic circle about the top of one of the main buildings. I looked up and thought, 'Burst from the Sky Take Flight'.

I am doing a 'short run' of this recording in the physical CD form. I'll update the Bandcamp page soon with a link to the Kunaki 'store' where the CD can be ordered.

about

Jim Goodin New York

I used to think of myself as a musician but as time goes I think of myself more a sound maker.

I've always come to music with some degree of struggle, at times worrying I was 'tone deaf' and often going to great lengths to confirm that I wasn't. I'm not sure that ever mattered.

I play at several instruments, lap steel guitar and others, modular synth, tape loops and Pure Data.
