Jim Goodin & James Ross - The Fields, the Sun, the Grains

about

another collaboration, this one with a fellow Brooklyn musician that I first met online through ImprovFriday.com. James Ross is a guitarist, looper and a player of the zhongruan, a Chinese traditional instrument that he showed up with at my apartment a couple weeks ago for our recording sessioni jam. I loved this instrument it had a fretless quality but it is actually fretted and scalloped to a degree. We got some lovely textures that day from the guitar and the lute like zhongruan. I pulled this piece from a 30 minute session and felt it had to go on the CD. Look for more of this sound in the future.

about

Jim Goodin New York

I used to think of myself as a musician but as time goes I think of myself more a sound maker.

I've always come to music with some degree of struggle, at times worrying I was 'tone deaf' and often going to great lengths to confirm that I wasn't. I'm not sure that ever mattered.

I play at several instruments, lap steel guitar and others, modular synth, tape loops and Pure Data.
