about

I'm very excited about this collection of guitar pieces. My style, interests, approach musically has changed over the last ten years with a lot of experimenting including going beyond my main instrument and strength of 25+ years with the guitar. I was off from work Thanksgiving week and found myself picking up my parlor Seagull 6-string acoustic fretted guitar and improvising in a variety of tunings some that I had never used in my solo guitar time of the 90's. Most of the inspiration for these pieces came from the regular Sound-in.org music event I participate almost every weekend. Though I did a couple of violin tracks in the event the parlor and the reflective style of my past was speaking to me again so I decided to stay with it and release as a Bandcamp release, whatever pieces came from the energy during the weekend. None of the pieces were rehearsed or thought out, though there was some thought to the tunings I chose, particularly those with the bottom string dropped to a low 'A'. They were all recorded room sound with the exception of Cat or Bird... with a Tascam PR-10 field recorder. I recorded Cat or Bird? Or is it perhaps that which calms me. with the iPad GarageBand app. There is some occasional environment noise and on Halfway to Zoloft some distortion and I just let it be.

The release title Halfway to Zoloft appeared in my mind during the recording of the last piece and stayed with me so I have dubbed the release that.

about

Jim Goodin New York

I used to think of myself as a musician but as time goes I think of myself more a sound maker.

I've always come to music with some degree of struggle, at times worrying I was 'tone deaf' and often going to great lengths to confirm that I wasn't. I'm not sure that ever mattered.

I play at several instruments, lap steel guitar and others, modular synth, tape loops and Pure Data.
